Earlier this year I photographed Megan and Bob’s wedding, so I was thrilled when they called me a few weeks ago to let me know that Jamison had arrived and that they wanted me to photograph their baby girl. It’s so wonderful to continue to be a part of such big moments in my client’s lives!

When I showed up for Jamison’s newborn session, my heart just about melted. I had never seen such a tiny, more precious little girl! Jamison was born several weeks early and weighed only 5lbs. 3oz. at birth. But she did so well during our session, even gracing us with a few little smiles and letting us put her in her dad’s firefighter helmet!

Megan and Bob, congrats on your beautiful baby girl! She’s lucky to have such wonderful parents!

Welcome to the world, Jamison Josephine!

Meet Baby Jamison Josephine. She might be the cutest baby girl I’ve ever met! I only just shot her newborn session yesterday, but I couldn’t resist sharing a sneak peek of this tiny 5lb. 10oz. princess. More to come soon!

Newborn sessions are still fairly new for me. But from the several sessions I have done, I know they have a completely different feel and rhythm than my other shoots. While I absolutely love the fast paced tempo of weddings and the liveliness of photographing children, newborn sessions happen at their own pace. There is no timeline, no enforced structure and lots of time to chat with the parents between nursing and diaper changes. I often get to hear about the birth stories (which always provides reinforcement that I’m not yet ready for children of my own!) and about the baby’s first days at home. Despite the lack of sleep and other adjustments parents are facing in these first few weeks at home, this time really does seem incredibly special.

This was most definitely the case with first-time parents Maru and Jonathan, who are simply overjoyed with their little Diego. I don’t think the smile on Maru’s face disappeared once during my time there. The love they feel for this baby was completely intoxicating and by the time our session was over and Diego was happily swaddled and in his mother’s arms, I wanted to pack him up in my camera bag.

Maru and Jonathan, thank you for inviting me into your home to capture such a special time in your life. Diego is so lucky to have such wonderful parents!

Meet Baby Diego…the adorable little guy I had the pleasure of photographing this weekend! I’ve seen my share of babies, but this little one was something special. Many more photos from his newborn session coming soon!

Isn’t he the cutest?!

Kylee and Hannah may quite possibly be the two children that have been in front of my lens the most. Their mom, Whitney, is one of my closest friends and for years I have been taking their photos around the holidays. It has been wonderful watching these little girls grow up. Every time I see them, I’m amazed at how much they have grown. For as long as I can remember, it has always been “Whitney and the girls,” but now they are lucky enough to have a little baby brother, Hudson (and hopefully a new photography subject for me!).

While I was in Spokane last month, I was able to make it out to Whitney’s lovely house and property outside of the city. It has become tradition to start our session at her uncle’s old barn, which has a gorgeous, faded door that I’m in love with. We spent some time wandering around the property and down by the river before heading over to her family’s horse stable. The girls had a blast playing in the hay, while little Hudson was content sleeping in Whitney’s arms.

Each time I drive away from spending time with Whitney, I’m always overcome by her immense optimism and unwavering “can do” attitude. Despite life’s ups and downs, this girl always has a smile on her face. And for that, I am always in deep admiration of her.

My time with Whitney, Kylee and Hannah is always special (although far too infrequent!). I am looking forward to watching Hudson grow up as I’ve done—and will continue to do—with his big sisters. I can only hope that this little family has many years still to come in front of my camera.

Happy November! Seriously, where is the time going? I feel like this year especially, time is going by faster than ever before. These past few months have been some of the busiest months of my life. Between shooting weddings for a local Seattle studio (more on that soon!), shooting my own weddings and portrait sessions and a really busy time at my day job, I’ve been finding it hard to catch my breath. But things are (thankfully!) starting to slow down a bit and I’m excited to get back to blogging more regularly and sharing some of the weddings and portrait sessions that I haven’t posted yet.

And what better way to start out this month, than to share a few of my favorite shots from baby Hudson’s newborn session last weekend. Oh my goodness, this little guy is absolutely adorable! It is so amazing to photograph a baby that is just several weeks old. They are so pure, so helpless and have their whole lives ahead of them to achieve whatever they set out to do…it’s really incredible when you stop and think about it for a minute. Little Hudson is lucky enough to have two wonderful sisters and an amazing mom, who I photographed as well. So stay tuned for the post of that session soon! But for now, enjoy some of my favs of baby Hudson and his beautiful mom, Whitney.
